Two-Satellite Fleet Operating in the X-Band Frequency
XTAR's fleet is comprised of two satellites, XTAR-EUR and XTAR-LANT, both operating in the X-band frequency of 7.25-8.4 GHz.
The satellites are based on Space Systems/Loral's flight-proved 1300 spacecraft, which have
accumulated more than 400 years of successful on-orbit performance. The XTAR satellites are
designed for 18-plus years of on-orbit operation. The system provides
overlapping coverage with
regional redundancy for increased service and reliability.
With its global, fixed, steerable beams and high-powered 72 MHz transponders, XTAR can easily accommodate massive wideband data requirements. The bandwidth is not application-specific: XTAR's capacity can support and transmit to any one of the primary architectures used by government agencies today, including fixed-to-fixed, tactical-to-tactical, reach-back, broadcast and UAV.
