Operational Benefits of Commercial
X-Band

XTAR service is covered under Status of Forces agreements, therefore minimizing Host Nation approval issues. Furthermore, upgrades and improvements to today's terminals have long term benefits and utility which are easing XTAR migration to the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS).

XTAR works with all existing DoD X-band terminals (>1200) with no modifications required. High-power payload amplifiers allow the use of advanced coding techniques (16 QAM demonstrated) thereby achieving significantly higher data rates than current systems.

With just a modest investment in a new modem, XTAR has demonstrated a dramatic improvement in data rates: 150 Mbps over the legacy rate of 8 Mbps.
Given minor modification to terminal feeds, XTAR can significantly increase available capacity. Furthermore, with its unique polarized spectrum, simply rotating a feed provides access to both
XTAR's left hand and right hand spectrum.
