Dr. Denis
Curtin
Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Curtin has been COO of XTAR, LLC, a joint venture between Loral Space & Communications, Ltd. and HISDESAT Servicios Estrategicos, S.A., since its formation in 2001.
Previously, Dr. Curtin served as Senior VP, Engineering and Operations for Loral ORION and as EVP, Loral Cyberstar Broadband Systems. He was responsible for the technical design of the ORION satellites and was instrumental in the formation of the ORION partnership. Before joining ORION, Dr. Curtin held a series of progressively senior engineering and management positions at COMSAT Laboratories, COMSAT General and COMSAT, culminating in Senior Director, Satellite Engineering, responsible for all COMSAT’s satellite engineering.
Dr. Curtin has an M.S. in Physics and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Astronautics and Aeronautics (AIAA) and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). In 2009 he was inducted into the SSPI Hall of Fame for his influence on the industry over a four-decade career. In 2006 he was named the recipient of the AIAA Aerospace Communications Award, presented for outstanding contributions in the field of aerospace communications. Dr. Curtin has published extensively in satellite technology and holds a patent on an infrared transparent solar cell.

William R. Schmidt
Vice President, Government Services
Mr. Schmidt is responsible for the business development, sales, and marketing of XTAR’s unique X-band services to the civil and military sectors of the U.S. government, including the Departments of Defense, State and Homeland Security, as well as allied governments. After serving three years as a U.S. Army Air Crewman, Mr. Schmidt began his career in aerospace and defense with the Link Division of Singer with P&L responsibility for multi-million dollar U.S. government contracts. He continued in positions of increasing responsibility, working for Honeywell, Figgie International and other large multi-billion dollar multinationals. His career shifted into the telecommunications and information security arena when he joined Data Systems Analysts, Inc. Most recently, he was a senior staff member of ARTEL Inc., a mid-tier telecommunications, managed network services, information security, and systems integrator, where he was responsible for growing ARTEL’s overseas business and contributing to its strategic direction.

Cor Westerhoff
Vice President, Operations and Programs
Mr. Westerhoff has accumulated over 34 years
of aerospace engineering management experience both on
active duty as an Army Officer and in the commercial satellite
industry. |

Gary Chesney
Executive Director, Products & Applications
Mr. Chesney has been involved with military communications,
reconnaissance, and commercial satellite systems for over
30 years. He is a retired Air Force Officer.

Robert McDade
Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. McDade has approximately 30 years of experience and expertise in financial reporting / analysis, strategic planning, budgeting and project management. During his career, he has worked for both large and small companies involved with telecommunications and manufacturing. He is a graduate of the State University of New York, College at Old Westbury New York. |
